The raw materials for Wild & Woven’s basketry are sustainably harvested from the mountain forests of Victoria. The twisted vines and roots possess a natural beauty and strength that gives each piece a unique character and form that is both beautiful and practical.
The random weaving method retains the inherent beauty and organic feel of the materials. Each basket is assembled with care over many hours in a process that is ancient and meditative.
The baskets are usually non-symmetrical and irregular in shape, as each vine or root has its own distinct shape. As weaver, I must work with each piece, rather than impose a pre-conceived idea of how the basket should look. In this way, the random weaving process is a true collaboration between the weaver and nature, and the finished baskets reflect the wilderness from which they arise and whose essence they contain.
